Dr. Payal Adhikari is a board certified pediatrician and mom. Here’s her guide to starting a new formula.
1. Talk to your pediatrician or lactation specialist first.
That’s what they’re here for! Especially if your baby has specific nutritional needs.
2. Don’t mix two different formulas.
Formulas have unique nutritional profiles, so you shouldn’t mix them together in one bottle.
3. Follow prep instructions carefully.
Brands have different scoop sizes and water-to-powder ratio, so this is important to ensure your baby is getting a proper serving. (Nara uses a 1:1 water to powder ratio.)
4. Pe patient and expect an adjustment period.
Any new food (including formula) can cause some fussiness, gassiness, or changes in stool patterns. Dr. Payal says about two days, some babies can take up to a week to adjust.

Combo feeding? Here's how to mix formula and breastmilk.
If you're pumping, one way to introduce a new formula is to mix prepared infant formula with breastmilk. If you do mix them together, it’s recommended that you carefully prepare the formula according to the directions on the can before mixing the prepared formula with breastmilk. Always follow the instructions on the formula can.
If you’re trying Nara Organics, we have clear instructions on our can label, and on our website. Make sure to properly mix the formula in a bottle (using Nara’s 1:1 ratio), and then add breastmilk.
