Our ingredients make Nara special.

To meet the required nutrient levels, every formula must make choices about ingredients. And not all ingredients are equal. At Nara, we carefully choose every ingredient in our formula for the highest possible quality and organic nutrition.

Fats 30%

Good fats for baby

Other formulas use all vegetable oils as their fat source, but we use the highest possible amount of whole milk because it contains good fat and naturally occurring MFGM. Then we add organic plant-based oils, including coconut oil. Together, they provide easily absorbed short-chain and medium-chain fatty acids and the essential fatty acids your baby needs for development.1 We also add DHA and ARA oils to support the brain, immune and cardiovascular systems.2

Carbs inspired by breastmilk

Just like breastmilk, lactose is the primary carbohydrate in our formula providing the energy your baby needs to grow. Lactose also helps to absorb calcium — a mineral essential for bone growth — and it acts as a prebiotic to support healthy bacteria in your baby’s gut.3,4 We also add the prebiotic GOS — derived from lactose — to support digestion.5 We never add carbs like corn syrup solids, maltodextrin, or glucose syrup.

Easy-on-tummies protein blend

Organic whey and casein, the proteins in our formula, come from our carefully sourced organic milk and whey ingredients. Our whey/casein is balanced at 60:40, an easy-on-tummies protein ratio patterned after mature breastmilk.

Essential vitamins & minerals

Nara has all the vitamins and minerals your baby needs in their first year including vitamins A, C, D, E, zinc, selenium for immune support, calcium for healthy bones, and iron, which is important for red blood cells, brain and immune development.6 Our formula also provides inositol at similar levels in breastmilk and choline to support brain development and neural function.7,8

Diving deeper: MFGM

Milk fat globule membrane (MFGM) is naturally occurring in whole cow’s milk and breastmilk (but not skim milk). Research shows that MFGMcan help:

Boost cognitive development Boost cognitive development
Strengthen the immune system Strengthen the immune system
Nurture gut health Nurture gut health
Boost cognitive development

The first 1,000 days of life are a period of rapid brain growth, and the brain requires fat for healthy development. Breastmilk and whole cows’ milk both contain phospholipids and glycosphingolipids. These lipids support important brain functions such as binding cations, immune recognition, and transmembrane signaling. 1,2,3,4

Gangliosides (sialic acid containing lipids) are also found in both breastmilk and cows’ whole milk; they’ve been shown to play important roles in neonatal brain development and receptor functions.1

In our formula, we also include DHA, ARA, and inositol (all found in breastmilk) at levels shown to support brain and eye development. 5,6

Strengthen the immune system

The largest immune system organ in the human body is the gut. Breastmilk and whole cows’ milk contain short chain fatty acids that are believed to be important for the health of the mucosal barrier in the gut — the first line of defense for the immune system — and help support the establishment of a healthy gut microbiome.1,2,3

Organic milk also provides a lower ratio of omega-6 to omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs). A lower omega-6 to omega-3 ratio can help counteract the inflammatory response and help support the immune system.4

At Nara, we also add vitamins A, C, D, E, selenium, and zinc to our formula at levels shown to support the immune system.5

Nurture gut health

Fast developing research indicates that gut microbiome has an important impact on health. Lactadherin, sialic acid, and phospholipids — all components of MFGM — have been shown to stimulate the growth rate of beneficial bifidobacterium in babies.1,2,3,4

Bifidobaterium is a good bacteria that commonly lives in the human gut. Milk fat also provides palmitic acid in the sn-2 position and has been demonstrated to be important for gut microbiota.5,6,7

At Nara, we also add a prebiotic to our formula to support digestion. Galactooligosaccharides (GOS), a prebiotic, supports the development of beneficial bifidobacteria and lactobacilli, and reduces the growth of harmful bacteria similar to breastfed babies.8

Nara Organics Organic Whole Milk Infant Formula can with a hand holding a scoop of powder.

At Nara Organics, safety always comes first.

Your baby’s health is our top priority, which is why our formula meets both U.S. and EU food safety standards and is rigorously tested at every step.

Our Quality Approach

Scientific knowledge is limited regarding outcomes for naturally occurring MFGM provided by bovine milk fat, compared to MFGM added to infant formula.

Babies will regulate how much they eat according to their needs, so this is just a guide. On average, your baby should take in about 2½ ounces of formula a day for every pound of body weight. When caring for your twins, start by choosing double the usual monthly supply. As you evaluate how each baby feeds, you can change the amount of infant formula you order based on their needs. Always talk to your pediatrician if you have questions about your baby’s specific needs.
