Case Count and Testing Update

Six weeks ago, we initiated a voluntary recall of all Nara formula in the U.S. Below is an overview of current facts and our next steps. 

Case count
Today, the case count stands at four. Since we initiated a voluntary recall on June 13, 2026, one additional case from May was retroactively added to the investigation. There have been no new cases of infant botulism with exposure to Nara in June or July. 

Closed can testing
In June, the FDA collected 27 closed cans of formula from Nara. On July 17, 2026, the FDA informed us that all their tests on these cans were negative for toxin type A clostridia spp. These cans came from the 3 lots of Nara formula reportedly consumed by infants involved in this outbreak. Additional closed can testing is underway. We will keep you updated on those results.

Open can testing
California Department of Public Health collected and tested open cans of Nara formula from two families affected by infant botulism. In early July, the FDA informed us that one open can of Nara formula tested positive for C. botulinum and the other tested negative. 

The formula industry’s and regulators’ understanding of clostridium botulinum is rapidly evolving in real time. We continue to work diligently alongside the FDA, CDC, and state health departments. We’re thinking of all Nara families, and we will share more information as we have it.
