Preparation & Mixing Guide

Nara uses a 1:1 ratio of water and powder. Add 1 unpacked, level scoop of powder to every 1 oz of water.

Proper hygiene, handling and storage are important when preparing infant formula. Ask your baby’s doctor if you need to use cooled, boiled water and if you need to sterilize bottles, nipples and rings before use.

  1. Wash hands, surfaces, and bottle before preparing
  2. Pour water into bottle. Measure and add powder to water (1 scoop per ounce of water).
  3. Return dry scoop to can. Cap bottle and shake well.
  4. Feed baby within one hour and discard any leftovers

The genius of whole milk

Whole milk is filled with good fats for growing babies.

Naturally occurring MFGM (milk fat globule membrane) is found in breastmilk and whole cows' milk — but not skim milk. So let’s give your baby the good stuff.

Research shows that MFGM helps:

Boost cognitive development Boost cognitive development
Strengthen the immune system Strengthen the immune system
Nurture gut health Nurture gut health
Boost cognitive development

The first 1,000 days of life are a period of rapid brain growth, and the brain requires fat for healthy development. Breastmilk and whole cows’ milk both contain phospholipids and glycosphingolipids. These lipids support important brain functions such as binding cations, immune recognition, and transmembrane signaling. 1,2,3,4

Gangliosides (sialic acid containing lipids) are also found in both breastmilk and cows’ whole milk; they’ve been shown to play important roles in neonatal brain development and receptor functions.1

In our formula, we also include DHA, ARA, and inositol (all found in breastmilk) at levels shown to support brain and eye development. 5,6

Strengthen the immune system

The largest immune system organ in the human body is the gut. Breastmilk and whole cows’ milk contain short chain fatty acids that are believed to be important for the health of the mucosal barrier in the gut — the first line of defense for the immune system — and help support the establishment of a healthy gut microbiome.1,2,3

Organic milk also provides a lower ratio of omega-6 to omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs). A lower omega-6 to omega-3 ratio can help counteract the inflammatory response and help support the immune system.4

At Nara, we also add vitamins A, C, D, E, selenium, and zinc to our formula at levels shown to support the immune system.5

Nurture gut health

Fast developing research indicates that gut microbiome has an important impact on health. Lactadherin, sialic acid, and phospholipids — all components of MFGM — have been shown to stimulate the growth rate of beneficial bifidobacterium in babies.1,2,3,4

Bifidobaterium is a good bacteria that commonly lives in the human gut. Milk fat also provides palmitic acid in the sn-2 position and has been demonstrated to be important for gut microbiota.5,6,7

At Nara, we also add a prebiotic to our formula to support digestion. Galactooligosaccharides (GOS), a prebiotic, supports the development of beneficial bifidobacteria and lactobacilli, and reduces the growth of harmful bacteria similar to breastfed babies.8

“Milk fat is an incredible nutrient for growing babies, and Nara Organics has the most whole milk fat of any U.S. formula.”

Dr. Jessica Acker
MD, Pediatrician

Real Questions. Real Answers.

We believe transparency is a key ingredient.
How much formula do I need?

At Nara Organics, we know that every baby has different feeding and nutritional needs. For general guidelines, you can check out our feeding chart for both formula feeding and combo feeding (50/50 formula and breastmilk).

The amount of formula your baby needs depends on several factors, including their age, their weight, and whether they're drinking all formula or combo feeding. If you’re fully formula feeding, your baby should take in about 2½ ounces of formula a day for every pound of body weight on average (according to the American Academy of Pediatrics).

For Nara, our general rule of thumb is to start with the 6 pack for babies who are fully formula feeding, and to start with the 4 pack for babies who are combo feeding (50/50 formula and breastmilk) at any age between 0-12 months.

This is just a guide, and you should always talk to your pediatrician if you have questions about your baby’s specific needs!

How do I transition to formula?

Always consult your baby’s doctor before you consider using or switching formula. Starting a new formula can feel overwhelming, but often it’s very simple, so let’s start there!

Many babies can start drinking a new formula right away with no fuss. It’s always worth trying a bottle and seeing how it goes. They might make faces or spit/dribble a bit at first because babies are predisposed to sweet tastes (like breastmilk) and this is a new flavor. Babies also have a general tendency to reject something new (just wait until they start solids!).

If your babe wasn’t thrilled about a new formula, fret not. Some babies may take more time to get used to a new taste. One way to ease the transition is to mix prepared Nara infant formula with breastmilk. If you do mix them together, some doctors recommend carefully preparing the formula before mixing with breastmilk.

Babies have gas (no matter what they’re eating), and their poop changes with their diet, so as you introduce Nara, your babe’s poop may look or smell different. This is normal! Our infant formula includes prebiotics which supports healthy digestion and may help with soft poops.

If you suspect that your baby isn’t tolerating the formula well, be sure to address this with your pediatrician immediately.

Why does Nara use whole milk?

The simple answer: We use organic whole milk because it’s filled with naturally occurring, nutritious fats that support your baby’s growth and brain development. Most formulas use skim milk and 100% vegetable oils as their fat, which means they miss out on those good milk fats.

The longer answer: Whole milk fat and breastmilk (but not skim milk or vegetable oils) naturally contain fats in the form of fat globules that are enveloped by a layered membrane. The membrane, called the milk fat globule membrane (MFGM) consists of a lot of different components that play a role in infant health outcomes. Researchers are still exploring the role of various components that are responsible for positive outcomes in infants, including neurodevelopment benefits, immune system, and gut health benefits just to name a few.

Is your formula easy to digest?

Yes, our formula is designed to be easy on tummies. We use a whey:casein ratio of 60:40 that mimics the protein blend of mature breastmilk.

Also, lactose is the primary carbohydrate for energy in our formula, which supports healthy bacteria in your baby’s gut. We also add prebiotics to support your baby’s digestion and to help with soft poops.

Is it ok to give my baby Nara Organics whole milk infant formula? I thought whole milk was for 12+ months.

Our infant formula is a complete food for babies 0-12 months. The organic whole milk we use in our formula is wholesome and safe, and is combined with other ingredients to ensure your baby is getting the complete nutrition they need. Most infant formulas use skim cows’ milk — we use whole.

Cows’ milk on its own (straight from the carton) can’t provide complete nutrition for infants and isn’t recommended for babies in their first year as a sole source of nutrition.

Is Nara infant formula FDA registered?

Yes! Nara Organics meets all FDA requirements. Nara is a U.S. formula, which means we’re regulated by the FDA. The FDA process is extremely rigorous (as it should be) and ensures all formulas in the U.S. meet nutritional and safety requirements. We also meet all EU food safety standards — some of the strictest standards for infant formula in the world. Learn about our quality standards.

Is your formula USDA Organic?

Yep, our formula is USDA organic certified. We don’t just use organic whole milk, our formula is USDA organic certified. Nara is the only USDA organic certified whole milk formula in the U.S. with no skim milk. Read more about our ingredients.

What ingredients in Nara’s formula support brain health?

We have the highest level of milk fat of any U.S. formula, which contains naturally occurring MFGM. We also include EU-levels of DHA, plus ARA, choline and inositol to support brain and neural development. In fact, we add DHA and ARA at levels similar to the worldwide average in breastmilk.

Why do you add prebiotics to your formula?

Prebiotics support your baby’s digestion and gut health. A healthy gut can also help with soft poops

    Love this formula

We found Nara with our 2nd baby and truly love this product - you can see it in the color, the certifications, and feel so much better that it’s made in the EU. Bea, our daughter, has loved it from day 1, and we love the story of Nara as parents.

    Best formula on the market!

After our son was born, he lost too much weight and we were told we should start triple feeding him. Ever since, my husband and I have been looking for a formula we felt good about, and that was easy for our son to digest. We went through two other formulas before finding Nara and all of them caused our baby to become fussy, spit up, or he would have a blowout shortly after having a bottle. Ever since switching to Nara, we can’t even tell the difference between the breastmilk and formula. His demeanor has also evened out a lot and he overall seems happier and healthier because of it!

The formula we've been waiting for!

My daughter is 4 months old and now that Nara has become available we are immediately switching to it. As a mom, I feel confident feeding my baby Nara because it's the best in the market - formulated with whole milk, clean ingredients, and it meets both US and European standards. My daughter loved Nara the very first time we tried it - she took it so easily and digested it great. I know I can trust Nara to help my baby grow and thrive, and this gives me incredible peace of mind as a parent!

    This formula changed our lives

Nara is incredible. We've tried a bunch of different formulas (including the euro ones Hipp and Holle) and it is by far the best. Not only are the ingredients best in class with no skim milk, but also my daughter just loves it. She has a clear preference for it vs any of the other formulas we've tried. Could not recommend it more.

The beneficial health outcomes in infants have been demonstrated in studies where infants have consumed formula enriched with MFGM fractions.

Babies will regulate how much they eat according to their needs, so this is just a guide. On average, your baby should take in about 2½ ounces of formula a day for every pound of body weight. Always talk to your pediatrician if you have questions about your baby’s specific needs.
